Jon Paull riding Asterix P wins Dodson and Horrell National Amateur Second Round at Colraine Equestrian Centre

Colraine Equestrian Centre in Truro, Cornwall hosted a Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Second Round on Sunday 30th September 2012. Following months of competitive riding in the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur First Rounds, riders were competing in order to qualify for the Championship Final.

All of the combinations starting in the Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Second Round were all hoping to secure one of the twelve direct qualifying tickets on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre in November 2012.

This Second Round proved popular saw seven combinations start and from these, six combinations made it through in to the jump off. In the jump off, five combinations achieved a double clear and the times decided the places.

The top spot was filled by 29-year-old Jon Paull from Newquay, Cornwall and he won this second round on board Asterix P, a seven-year-old chestnut gelding owned by Piers Hay. The combination cleared all seven fences in the jump off in a time of 31.38 seconds to seal the win and a Championship Final place.

In second was 13-year-old Sammy Cotton from Cornwall and her placing came on board Gravity's Last, A seven-year-old chestnut mare owned by Sharon Cotton. The combination had a faultless round over the jump off fences and their time of 33.47 seconds was enough to ensure that second place was theirs.

Third place was taken by 17-year-old Charlotte Goord from Devon on board her own Reduster Polanski, a nine-year-old bay gelding. This combination posted an immaculate clear in the jump off in a time of 37.99 seconds.

A further three riders also achieved their qualification for the Championship Final.
